Mission & Values
No matter what kind of community space we're in, we are committed to caring for, connecting, communicating with, and changing together. This helps us create beautiful music and thriving community.
Our spaces include and affirm folks of all musical backgrounds, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled folks, immigrants, and all religious and class backgrounds.
We care for one another through reciprocal support. We foster belonging by balancing our needs with the needs of others, lovingly holding each other accountable, and aiming to repair after rupture. Transformative justice is a guiding movement and value system for us, and we practice it as best we can.
We connect to ourselves, each other, and the world through the community we build and music we make. Deeper connections are made through kindness, compassion, silliness, vulnerability, authenticity, and sharing our experiences. We connect to ourselves via somatic embodiment, meaning we pay attention to what our bodies tell us and take responsibility for our embodied experiences (ie feelings, emotions, impulses, behaviors) to better support ourselves and the group.
We aim to communicate our needs, preferences, desires, and boundaries clearly. We commit to trying our best to listen, lead with curiosity, and hold each other in unconditional positive regard, especially when we make mistakes or cause harm. We aim to communicate in action, word, and/or writing the community norms and expectations for each space we gather in, and we aim to respect and uphold norms and expectations as a collective.
We are committed to change. As we sing together, we learn how to see each other and let ourselves be seen. Through reciprocity, we grow as musicians and community members. We heal old wounds, learn new ways of moving and being. Decolonization culture, especially of ourselves, is something we value and practice as best we can.
Please enter our spaces with the intention to embody these values, norms, and expectations. All are welcome in our spaces as long as they commit to moving in these ways. Feel empowered to ask any questions or seek clarification at any time. We are here to support you.
